THIS month 14 students from the Penarth AKAD (Association of Karate and Allied Disciplines) undertook their Karate grading.

This involved them performing basic techniques (Kihon), pre-arranged sparring (Kumite) and a memorised sequence of movements (Kata).

Four Students were graded to their Brown belt (Seren James, Deiniol Knight, Ryan Allen and Tariq Amari); seven Students to Yellow belt (Felice Cirino, Megan Cirino, Alex Murphy, Hannah Murphy, Jamie Murphy, Abi Fox and Sofia Creedon); Sebastian Jones was awarded his Red belt; and new members Chris Evans and Myles Mullet were awarded their Orange belts.

All their hard work over the past few months really paid off on the night with everyone successful in achieving their new grades.

The club trains on a Monday and Wednesday at Ysgol Pen-y-Garth’s Sports hall (Sully Road), 6pm-7pm. There is also a training session on Monday evenings 7pm-8pm for higher grades.

The club is run by Sully resident Stuart Creedon, a 4th Dan Black belt with over 25 years of Martial Arts experience, who said: "As an Instructor I seek to develop students to gain discipline, confidence and respect within the club's activities, which in turn is applied beyond the Dojo.

"I am extremely proud of the group and have seen significant progress in the club as a whole over the last year. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and commitment."

The club is an opportunity for adults and children to be physically active, have fun and meet new friends in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere. New members are always welcome.
