ON Friday, June 8, Sully Sports RFC held their annual presentation dinner after a very successful year.
As the club is now fielding two sides this was the biggest event in many years and more than 20 awards were given out.
After enjoying a five-course meal, the evening started off with game ties which is a big achievement for players after hitting a milestone of games.
This season saw Michael Angove and Jody Velda achieve their 100 game tie, and Paul Miller and Richard Gully their 150 game tie.
The club's new chairman for next season, Anthony Powell, then presented glass tankards to the 1st XV Coaches, Grantley Harris and Maama Molitika, and 2nd XV manager Gerald Cordle, as a big thank you for all their hard work last season.
Other thank yous also went to Helen Miller and John Turner for their help keeping the boys going on the pitch with their medical knowledge.
Other winners of the night were:
Non Player of the Year - Ron Western
Clubman of the Year - Michael Angove
Most Improved Player - Tom Sloman
Best Newcomer 1st XV - Jon Blake
Best Newcomer 2nd XV - Craig Hadley
Players' Player 2nd XV - Harry Moyle
Players' Player 1st XV - Nathan Taylor
Club Player of the Year - Ben Such
This season also saw a remarkable achievement in the club's history.
2nd XV Captain, Peter Mees, not only led his team to win the club's first ever Cardiff and District silverware, The Ron Lucock cup; it also saw him, as only the second player in the club's history, to pass the 600 games mark.
Peter is a valued member of the club and gives up a lot of time and effort in organising and keeping the club running. It's great to see him achieve such a milestone.
The club would like to say a big thank you to Emma Huggins and her team at Break Bread Catering for a glorious meal, and sponsors Chris Mort of CJ travel and Byron Coleston of Grab It plant hire for the valuble support last season.
