Kickboxers take competition by 'Storm'!
7:30am Thursday 12th July 2012 in Sport
STORMING FORWARD: A team representing the Storm Kickboxing Academy, which has many students from the Penarth and Barry areas, picked up a string of awards at a high profile event in Northants.
A SMALL team of kickboxers took a competition by 'storm' last month to come away with a large haul of trophies and a grand champion.
Storm Kickboxing Academy, which has many students from the Penarth and Barry areas travelling to classes in Grangetown, chalked up 11 victories and picked up 16 and seven runners-up and third-placed trophies respectively at the Northants Open Tournament - a very high standard event in which Team Storm went head to head with some of the best fighters in Britain.
Storm chief instructor Shaun Brace said: "It was an amazing day, with all the team giving their all and more. I'm extremely proud of them all. Their successful achievements at these events makes all their hard work in class worthwhile.
"This a very high achieving club and it is with the high levels constantly being reached at these events at home, on the national stage, and abroad, that the success of our club and its training methods can be measured."
The team is presently in training and preparing for several other high profile events, including the Flanders Open in Belgium and WTKA World Championships in Italy, in addition to some major English tournaments.
Storm Kickboxing is a non-profit run club and, in addition to the team putting so much effort into training, a lot of their spare time is used to raise funds to help them get to competitions.
Based in Ebbw Vale, Storm Kickboxing currently offers classes across Wales, including Grangetown in Cardiff, and will be opening a class in the Vale in the near future.
The club offers a pay-as-you train system, with no membership fee, and individuals aren't expected to sign a monthly contract. Instructors are professional, qualified, and hold CRB and Child Protection certification. For further information regarding class locations, sponsorships or donations, please contact Shaun Brace on 07773 032207.
