Parents thrilled by judo event

BUDOKAN Judo Club in Sully held its Summer Championships on Wednesday, July 18.

The club has youngsters from all over the area, including Penarth, Barry and Dinas Powys, and these championships gave an insight to the students in preparation to viewing the Olympic Games. The energy and enthusiasm shown by all the judoka involved had the parents enjoying watching the contests.

In the junior category, the gold medal went to 11-year-old Ben Hanson and silver to Jacob Court, also 11. In the intermediate category, the gold medal went to Rhys Holmes and the silver to Tom Croll. The primary category was next on the mat and individuals were inspired by the previous competitors, which made the event exciting as each student was determined to win. The gold medal went to Henry Hanson, with silver to Oliver Lewis, and bronze to Ben Self, Zac Hill and Dan Hill.

Certificates of achievement were awarded to all competitors on the day for all their hard work. Certificates were also awarded to Georgia Davies and Jacob Randall for their high attendance during the year. Recognised for their commitment were Ben Croll, Amy Piper, Rebecca Meadows, Dylan Jones, Caitlin Meadows, Thomas Piper and Louie Harris. Hearty congratulations to all judoka. It was great to see all the children's beaming faces as they showed their medals and certificates to their proud parents; a fitting conclusion to a super season of judo.

The club starts again on Tuesday, September 12. Tuesdays - Juniors, 7pm; Seniors, 8pm. Wednesdays - Primaries, 6 - 8pm. Thursdays - Juniors, 7pm; Seniors, 8pm. If you would like more information on joining the fun in September, please call Charlotte on 02920 704704.
