Hat-tricks for Jeremy and Hinds as goal-happy Dinas fire a dozen past Cwmaman

CWMAMAN INSTITUTE 0 DINAS POWYS 12

THIS was a ruthless performance - and once Dinas got their first goal, there was going to be only one winner in this Welsh League Division Two clash on Saturday (August 25).

The visitors were the better side from the kick-off on Saturday (August 25), but couldn’t make the most of their chances with Mathew Trottman, Robbie Fowler and player-manager Mark Dunford all having chances to open the scoring.

Dinas were dealt a blow when Trottman limped off to be replaced by Steffan Davies, but he made an immediate impact, putting his shot just wide of the post. He didn’t have to wait long though and when Steve Provis’s through ball was inch perfect, he finished by hooking the ball past keeper Lloyd Waghorn for the first goal.

Chris Hinam and Dunford both shot wide before Dinas got their second just a minute before half-time, and again it was substitute Davies, who met an excellent low cross from Fowler to fire in from close range.

Dinas went in at half-time two goals to the good but no-one was prepared for what would happen in the second half!

Cwmaman must have wondered what had hit them, as within a minute of the restart Fowler’s early ball into the area was left by Davies to run on for Dunford who clinically finished from 12 yards.

On four minutes Dunford’s ball inside the full-back forced a corner; Liam Jeremy played the ball short to Davies who returned the ball for Jeremy to put in a cross that beat everyone and ended up nestling in the back of the net for 4-0.

Ten minutes later, following the introduction of sub Joe Hinds for Dunford, Jeremy scored his second and again the ball found the net this time directly from a corner.

Eighteen minutes into the second-half Davies completed his hat-trick, when Adam Raymond won the ball in midfield and played the ball through for Davies to score from 15 yards and make it 6-0.

Two minutes later Davies was the provider, heading a free-kick down for Fowler to steer his shot wide of the keeper and into the net. On 23 minutes it was time for Raymond to get in on the act, and he finished off a neat passing move with a low shot; followed a couple of minutes later by Hinds heading in a Richard Yarr cross for 9-0.

On the half-hour Hinds got his second goal with a shot from the edge of the area; and nine minutes later came a fine solo effort from Robbie Fowler - taking the ball on the half-way line he went past three defenders before rounding the keeper deep in the area and shooting into an empty net.

There was still time for a second hat-trick and again it was scored by a substitute, Hinds heading in Yarr’s cross to complete the scoring and Cwmaman’s misery.

Games like this don’t come along too often and the players enjoyed the celebrations ahead of a return back down to earth soon after ready for the next game.

ELY RANGERS 1 DINAS POWYS 3

DINAS have not yet hit the form they attained towards the end of last season but they are so far unbeaten with 2 draws and 2 wins under their belt - and they proved too strong for Rangers at Wenvoe last Tuesday (August 21).

The home side gained the majority of possession in the opening minutes but it was Dinas who had the first meaningful attacks, with Robbie Fowler on the right the first to trouble the Rangers defence.

On a couple of occasions he got the better of his defender to produce excellent balls across the Rangers area, but unfortunately they were just beyond the Dinas forwards.

On 18 minutes Dinas went ahead when a rash challenge on Matt Trottman deep in the area saw the referee immediately point to the spot, and player manager Mark Dunford stepped up to send keeper Hart the wrong way to score.

A couple of minutes later they doubled their lead with the best move of the game, involving five players. The ball was swiftly transferred from defence to Adam Raymond in the area, and his accurate cross to the far post gave Fowler the easiest of tasks to slot the ball home from a couple of yards.

For Rangers Jordan Cottrell had a couple of long range shooting opportunities off target, but just before half-time it was Dinas who should have added to their lead when Richard Yarr found Dunford in acres of space. He moved forward but placed his shot not only wide of the keeper but also the post.

The lights came on for the second-half and Rangers again had the major share of possession at the start of the half, with Dinas seemingly content to contain them. At the back Mike Lewis covered well, making a number of timely interceptions, and Chris Hinam was playing his usual composed game.

Going forward Trottman fired a ball across the keeper but also wide of the post before he laid the ball on for Dunford to shoot over from the edge of the area.

Mid-way through the second-half Dinas got their third; Fowler and Trottman again played their parts in the build-up before a 15 yard shot rebounded off the crossbar, hitting an unfortunate defender on the back before rolling across the goal-line.

Rangers got their goal 5 minutes from time when a cross from the right was headed home by substitute Dominic Pates. Dinas played out the remaining 5 minutes without any major scares.
