8-0 victory sees Sully Sports FC extend lead at top of South Wales Senior League
8:00am Thursday 27th September 2012 in Sport
SULLY SPORTS FC 8 TONYPANDY ALBION 0
TONYPANDY Albion were the visitors to Swanbridge for Saturday's South Wales Senior League clash and, in perfect conditions, they held their own as the home side sought to attack.
Anthony Ferguson made a welcome return for Sports in his first outing this season and, with a mounting injury list, the midfielder was outstanding.
Sports took a deserved lead after forcing a couple of corners and it was Gavin Beddard who stole in at the far post to fire in from a narrow angle.
The returning Michael Fowler made space and calmly put the Sports two ahead. It was all Sports now and a classic Fowler back heel was bent around the keeper by Alex Long.
Soon after Gareth Hemmens drove home a 20-yarder as the away team failed to clear. The second half saw Sully again on top and, with Ferguson and Long causing havoc for the Tonypandy back line, the former fed his colleagues who finished well.
The Pandy defence were struggling to cope with the runs of Long and, after some poor fouls, a visiting defender was red carded. Substitute Myles Case then combined well with Long who completed his hat-trick. Fowler and Long played a one-two for the former to notch his second and, with the visitors looking down and out, the same player completed his hat-trick with Sports' eighth goal.
The Sully defence had little to do against an unusually quiet Tonypandy side who have given Sully lots of problems in the past.
The victory allowed Sports to increase their lead at the top of the First Division.
* This Saturday Sports start the defence of the Welsh FA Trophy at Swanbridge, with the players meeting at 12.30 for the 2.30 kick off.
