Dinas FC fall victim to weather again

ONCE again Dinas Powys FC's Welsh League Division One game at Cambrian & Clydach was postponed last Saturday morning, as the pitch was frozen.

Although the club is in a better position than most of the clubs in the league, having played more games, they are now anxious to get the season under way again with the game against Bridgend Town, ko 2pm at The Murch this Saturday.

The previous Saturday they did manage to get a game played but were on the wrong end of a 0-3 beating against an in-form Caldicot Town side who are second in the league.

As happens before every game, the pitch was inspected and at least three separate piles of dog mess had to be removed – not a very good start but at least the pitch should be in good playing order for the game, or so we thought.

During the game the referee had to stop things three times for more dog mess to be removed, and quite rightly, he had to include these problems in his report to The Welsh League and Football Association of Wales, with the possibility of disciplinary action against the Club.

A club spokesman said: "Apart from the unpleasant thought of falling on to one of these piles, the fact is that in most games players get cuts or grazes and if these wounds are infected then the consequences for the player could be very serious.

"As on previous occasions, the club has reported these problems to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and asked them to enforce the warnings signs displayed to dog owners, some of whom are clearly thoughtless and irresponsible."

On a brighter note, the club are delighted to announce they have completed the return of long time Dinas favourite Nathan 'Knocker' Hosgood from Division 3 pace-setters Pontypridd.

The vastly experienced Hosgood will bring much needed guile and creativity to a hardworking Dinas outfit who may have struggled to find goals following the return of Jaymes Dixon to Barry Town.

A club spokesman said: "Apart from being a really nice guy who always gives 100% on the pitch, 'Knocker' has the class and experience to unlock any defence.

"It's a real boost for the Club, following on from the return of a number of ex-Dinas players earlier in the season.

"It's also a welcome addition to a squad that's high on team-spirit but a little short on numbers at the moment, although we are looking to remedy that ready for a tough run-in to the end of the season."
