PENARTH Stanwell School pupil William Hall has retained his title as Welsh Open Optimist Champion for the second year running with an impressive five first places and two second places totalling nine points.
The annual Welsh Open Optimist Championship took place over the bank holiday weekend at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and was well attended by sailors from across Wales as well as from the UK.
Close on William's heels was Rhys Lewis in second and Jamie Cook in third place and first ten-year-old Hannah Roberts-Straw was the first girl in sixth position. All three also sail for Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, giving CBYC a clean sweep.
As part of the weekend all sailors were invited to attend the VIP area of the Extreme 40s which took place in Cardiff Bay that weekend and the top eight sailors were invited to ask questions to each of the skippers of each Extreme Team.
There was also a team sailing event which was won by William Hall (CBYC), Rhys Lewis (CBYC), Huw Nunn (CBYC) and Oliver Hill (Bewl Valley SC).
