CYNCOED LADIES 4
DINAS POWYS LADIES 1
WITH home side Cyncoed fielding several internationals, Dinas Powys Football Club Ladies faced a tough test in this away clash.
Following a solid team performance against Hafod, Dinas made only two changes, with all-rounder Emily Gillard, goal scorer from last week, starting as goalkeeper and Laura Lewis on the left wing.
Dinas started brightly and Lewis created a couple of chances for striker Lisa Grindley.
Cyncoed stepped up the tempo and, exploiting their speed on the right wing, took the lead through Jo Doig.
Dinas kept their heads up, with Chantelle Chapman causing problems down the wing and, after 20 minutes, Charlotte Bloxham was felled by the goalkeeper in the box, but was not awarded a penalty.
A breakaway brought a second goal for Doig after 22 minutes and this was quickly followed by a third from Sarah Trannette.
Frustrated, but undaunted, Dinas kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a goal through a fine volley by midfielder Jo Jones.
Following the half-time team talk, Dinas introduced Brooke Howell and Sam Saunders and, showing plenty of energy, took control in the second half. Strong performances from Rhian Penikett and Shazia Zahoor closed down Cyncoed's strike force, whilst wingers Chapman and Howell created chances for the tireless Bloxham who harried the home defence for every ball.
Dinas were very unlucky not to score and, indeed, even more unlucky at 80 minutes when, against the run of play, Doig completed her hat-trick.
