Titans win opening games

AFTER their training session at the Cardiff Arms Park last week, the Old Penarthians Rugby Club U7s - the Titans - were ready to take on visitors Pentyrch and, before the start, the local boys received their club shirts; a proud moment for all.
The visitors brought along more than 20 boys and girls for the five matches, while the hosts fielded 17 boys.
Pentyrch put together some great attacking rugby but it was not quite good enough to beat the home defence. Coach Stuart Barter had spent time at last week's training session on defensive lines and turning them into attack. This paid off ,with all five games being won and tries being run in from all areas. Stuart Barter said: "I was really pleased with the work the coaches and players put in on their defence and it paid dividends."
There were some notable performances all round and great teamwork, and players making their debuts settled in quickly. These included
Ethan Galsworthy and Callum O'Brien, who scored five tries each, Twm Thomas, who notched two excellent tries, and Gabriel Chandler, with his tag tackles.
Other areas where the Old Pens showed off their abilities were through Haydn Craven, the scorer of two tries, whose distribution of the ball to team mate William Davies led to two great tries; also Josh Kings, Evan Friis, James Bennett and Neirin Gilani, whose pace in tag tackling and scoring meant it was impossible for the visitors to gain control.
One of the club sponsors, Matt King, of ACTIS Insulation Limited, said: "It was great to see such a large group of boys and girls enjoying rugby even in the pouring rain. "
The final game of the day brought two first ever tries for Connor Kennedy, who powered over, and Morgan Pendleton-Jones, when a sharp turn opened up a gap.
