PORTHCAWL ATHLETIC 1

DINAS POWYS 9

THE Dinas Powys ladies' football side produced a controlled and determined performance to earn their fourth win of the season and take their goals tally to 38 after just five games.

The livelier team from the outset, Dinas' dominance was rewarded with a 10th minute strike from Lisa “Lipsy” Grindley. Playing in an attacking style, the Dinas back four of Ellison (captain), Zahoor, Murray and Beddoe were quick to move the ball to wingers Howell and Chapman who created numerous chances. Howell was rewarded for her hard work with Dinas' second and then midfielder Jo Jones netted after 23 minutes. This was quickly followed by a fourth from Emily Gillard.

Porthcawl made a few decent breaks but were stymied by the strength of Murray in defence, while Dinas goalkeeper Imperato showed great composure in dealing with a free kick.

Jones scored an unusual goal on 36 minutes when the defenders, rattled by a barrage of crosses, parted the way for her to get in a clear shot. Gillard netted her second on the stroke of half time to give Dinas 6-0 lead.

Porthcawl came out attacking in the second half and managed to contain Dinas until the 65th minute when Gillard completed her hat-trick. This was followed a minute later by a goal for Bloxham, who was delighted to score after a frustrating period of play.

Dinas were unable to keep a clean sheet when Porthcawl netted a consolation goal in the 80th minute but there was still time for Gillard to complete the scoring six minutes later.

Dinas made four substitutions at half time, with Karla Barcoe, Vicky Williams and Jo Macpherson making their seasonal debuts and Sam Saunders coming on as striker.

Dinas' next game is away on October 6 against Cardiff City Development; kick-off 2pm.
