AFTER a long spell without a South Wales Senior Soccer League fixture, Sully Sports had a player red carded for retaliation in only the fourth minute of this local derby.
Following the explosive opening to the First Division clash, Sully reorganised, with Alex Long sitting deeper and Dan Lawlor working with the nearest helper. And the system worked a treat as the home side dictated play and went ahead on 15 minutes when Aiden Lewis pounced on a miscued clearance to force the ball home.
Playing football of the highest standard in the difficult circumstances, Sports moved further ahead when a flowing, attacking move involving several players ended with Conner McInery hitting a beauty past the 'keeper.
Sports searched for further goals as Long rocked the bar from a 25-yard free kick and then hit the post from a narrow angle but they were not to be denied and, as half-time closed in, Lawlor notched his side's third.
Sports continued to pepper the Cogan goal and Lawlor added a fourth after great work from the midfield men.
The Sports work rate was immense and, with an excellent bench, they brought on coach Mike Fowler, Connor Ogden and captain Dan James as replacements. From another bout of attacking play, Ogden chipped the 'keeper only for the ball to rebound off the post.
The win leaves Sully trailing the current league leaders by nine points but with three games in hand.
This Saturday Sully are in Welsh Cup action when they entertain Welsh League Division Two opponents, AFC Llwydcoed, at Swanbridge; kick-off 2pm. Entry will be by programme to cover the cost of officials, etc. Players should report to the club by 12.15pm.
The club's Vale League side visit the Barry Sports Centre for a First Division game against The Knap; players to report at the BSC by 12.45pm.
