DISCUS thrower Jay Morse was presented with the Best Performance Award U13 boy 2013 at the recent Cardiff AAC awards evening.
The award is given to the athlete that is ranked highest in their age group at the end of the season in their chosen discipline. Jay not only became Welsh Under 13 discus champion in 2013 but also topped the Welsh rankings for the whole season, remaining unbeaten all year and breaking the Stanwell School Year Seven record and Cardiff and Vale county record on the way.
At the Welsh senior championships in Cardiff in July this year Jay threw 27.47m to win his first Welsh title at U13 level. He also won all four rounds of the competition he entered.
Earlier this week older brother and Olympian Brett Morse was announced as one of only four British male athletes to finish 2013 ranked inside the World’s top ten.
Brett, who starred in the London Olympics last year, recently competed in the World Athletics Championships in Moscow in August this year.
Brett threw a distance of 59.23m and finished in 23rd place in the qualifying round.
At the time he said that he was “very disappointed” that he didn’t make it through to the final.
He will now be targetting the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, as well as the European Games in Baku in 2015.
