New Xperiences on offer for children

AN ORGANISATION committed to engaging local children in physical activity through non-traditional coaching sessions will be offering Christmas courses with a difference this December.

Children can choose from 'Spy Xperience' - where children learn to negotiate a 'laser maze', build shelters, make gadgets and escape from handcuffs - and a new 'Martial Arts Experience', as well as more traditional sports sessions which have been organised by local children's physical activity specialists Sports Xtra.

Alex Lock, regional director of Sports Xtra, said: "Our aim is to engage all local children in physical activity by giving them the opportunity to try our 'Xperiences'. Whilst we normally run sessions in schools and at regular Saturday morning clubs, we know that the Christmas holidays can be a particularly sedentary time with lots of time indoors due to cold weather, new X-box games to play, DVDs to watch, etc. These courses give children the opportunity to let off some steam in a safe environment, develop their confidence as they learn new skills and maintain healthy activity levels over the holidays.

"Not all children enjoy traditional sports but our belief is that all children can find a physical activity which they enjoy if they have enough opportunity to try new activities. We also believe that this is the way to tackle the worrying childhood obesity and inactivity trends recorded in children."

Sports Xtra's Christmas courses will take place on December 23 and 24, 2013, and January 2 and 3, 2014, at The Vale Resort, Hensol. To book a place for your child call 08453 716121 or visit
