South Wales Senior League Division One - Lewistown 3-7 Sully Sports

THE pitch at Pant Yr Awel passed a mid morning inspection for this league game.

Sports needed a league win after a long series of cup games started slowly and gave away a soft early goal to the home team. This was soon cancelled out when Anthony Ferguson making his first League start since returning to the club made space and lash the ball into the corner of the net. Sports put together a fine move with Alex long squaring the ball back for the on coming Daniel Lawlor who made no mistake to give Sports the lead. Lewistown were hitting some long balls and their forwards were looking dangerous but a bad mistake from a defender saw him slice the ball past his surprised keeper for a Sully two-goal lead.

Sports still looked a bit shaky and a bad defence error allowed them back in the game again but Andrew Townsend making a welcome return after injury received a good pass on the edge of the box and beat the keeper just inside his near post.

The second half started with the home side getting more physical and some poor marking allowed them to score with a good finish. Sports now turned on the heat and the bulky home defence could not deal with it and Daniel Lawlor nipped in for his second goal. With the pressure on a series of Sully corners led to Lewistown struggling to clear and Ed Jones lurking at the far post hit a stunning left footer passed the keeper.

With yellow cards flying about, Sports managed to keep their composure and Alex Long deservedly scored a solo goal. A fine win for Sports at Lewistown – always a difficult place to win.
