THE Christmas break didn’t stop play for the juniors of Penarth Windsor Lawn tennis Club who were busy competing in tournaments in and outside of Wales.
The club fielded a large entry in the prestigious South Wales County Closed Championships at Cardiff Metropolitan University and David Lloyd Cardiff, and there was success in several age groups for Windsor. In the 8&U singles, young Felix Bockelmann-Evans reached the semi-final, only missing out on a place in the final to the eventual winner by one point. Jack Ritchie was a stand-out performer in the 10&U age group where he reached the semi-finals as did Jack Rees in the 12&U singles after a marathon quarter-final.
All three are trained by tennis squad head coach Robert Wedlake who was delighted with their performances. He said: "At what can be a difficult time to compete due to the holiday period and a lack of practice, it was very encouraging to see the club represented by so many juniors in this and other events. Along with some good performances in other events and in winter teams, this bodes well for the summer season ahead."
