HUNDREDS of rare and sought after sports programmes are being put up for auction along with Barry Town memorabilia.

David Sylvester, a player at with Sully Centurions Cricket Club and keen sports programme collector, has cleared out his collection which is being placed up for grabs to the highest bidder on Thursday, January 30.

The 325 items, ranging from international to local matches, from football to athletics, from the early 20th century onwards, will be auctioned off by Special Auction Services in Newbury, Berkshire.

David, 68, has even had a few items valued at as much as £800 due to their rarity and likely appeal to fellow collectors.

Among prospective buyers are the Welsh FA who have shown an interest in some of the items.

Having kept some of his more prized programmes and items, David said he was sad to see his collection being cleared out but was also glad to see them being offered up to enthusiasts.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed them," he said. "But I think it's time someone else enjoyed them.

"I'd like to see the collection displayed rather than kept in boxes in the attic."
