SULLY Indoor Bowls Club visited Blaenau Gwent for the second time in two weeks on Saturday and were again given a sound beating by the league leaders. Once again Sully were struggling to field a side to travel away from home and as Blaenau Gwent only have a three rink green, three games have to played in the morning and afternoon, making it even more difficult getting a team together. The three rinks in the morning session put up a strong resistance against some excellent home bowling but the Sully Rinks were more resilient than in the previous encounter and the shot count favoured the home side by only 13 shots mainly due to the rink of Joe Coles/Doug Hotchkiss/Graham Cogbill and Skip Dave Wright who had a tremendous result winning by five shots 22-17. Mel Newman’s rink of Gary Eastment/Clive Collins/Mike Doyle were down 11–20 after 16 ends but fought back courageously over the final five ends losing by just four shots.

The afternoon session was always going to be difficult with some new bowlers kindly stepping in to fill the gaps and although playing well, they found themselves playing against International class players. The most successful Sully rink was that of M Davies/R Richards/D Curtis and Skip Gary Williams although losing by eight shots made their opponents fight all the way. The afternoon session finally ended with the home side holding a 51 shot advantage and a total overall margin of 64 shots, gaining 20 points to Sully’s two. Sully have one more game left to play on Saturday, February 8, at Sully 2pm start.
