A LOCAL man has been shortlisted by the Welsh Yachting Association for a club and volunteer award for his outstanding contribution to Sully Sailing Club.

Malcolm Staddon has been a member of the Sully club committee for more than 20 years, fulfilling the roles of Commodore and, for the past 15 years, treasurer, a post from which he is retiring.

Over that period, Malcolm has played a key role in the development of sailing facilities at Sully, overseeing the financing for the construction of the club’s slipway that now allows sailing at virtually all states of the tide and, subsequently, the building of the new clubhouse, greatly enhancing sailing opportunities in Sully Bay.

Both projects were supported by Sportlot funding, but required match funding by the club, and Malcolm’s unstinting efforts were crucial to the success of both projects.

A club spokesman said: "The Sully club committee wishes to thank Malcolm for his hard work over the years, and wishes him well when the awards are announced at the Welsh Yachting Association headquarters in Plas Menai."
