AFTER a seriously disrupted schedule due to the poor weather, Old Penarthians Rugby Club U10s put in a strong showing in two back to back fixtures at the end of February.
The first home fixture since before Christmas pitched Old Pens against a physical Llandaff North side, with the local boys responding to early tries for the visitors with scores from Josh Edwards, Georgia Morgan and Jon O'Sullivan which gave them a healthy half-time lead.
Llandaff staged a strong fightback after the break as the Old Pens' defence began to tire against the opposition's much larger ball carriers, but further late tries from Georgia and Josh, combined with excellent kicking from Kieron Gilbert-Jones, provided the home side with a narrow win.
The following weekend brought another tough fixture away against a talented CRICC side, with firm early defence from the Penarth side. Despite strong running, Old Pens were unable to break through and CRICC quickly scored a flurry of tries that swung the match in their favour.
Pens continued to defend bravely to the end, with excellent contributions from the entire side and particularly impressive tackling from Rhys Stout, Jack Powell and Aaron Coborn.
