WITH the London Marathon fast approaching Penarth runners embarked on the Rhayader 20 mile road race last weekend.

It was a hugely successful race for Penarth and Dinas Runners with two runners taking home silverware from their respective age categories.

Yvonne Williams was 1st in her age category, while Helen Griffiths was 3rd in her age category.

Both runners enjoyed a bottle of wine each and a hand crafted crystal bell.

In pleasant conditions Richard Jackson-Hookins, in the furthest race he has ever run, was the first Penarth runner to cross the finish line in 31st overall in a time of 2.23.59 and average pace of 7.12 minute miling.

New member Helen Griffiths was next in 79th place in 3.01.12, followed by Malcolm Bradley in 144th in 2.53.16, Yvonne Williams in 235th and 3.16.05, and Lindsey Hunt in 287th in 3.29.57.

They will be back in action this Sunday, March 16, for the Atlantic College 10k race in St Donat’s.

The race is a club championship fixture and members will be desperate to score points in their respective age categories.

It has also recently been confirmed that the Porthkerry 5 race, organised by Penarth and Dinas Runners, will be taking place on May 11.

Entry forms are available on the Penarth and Dinas Runners website.
