NAMED as player of the year at the annual presentation dinner, Chris Cummings has received the best wishes of the Sully Sports rugby fraternity as he takes up a new coaching role with another local club.

Other awards went to: 1st team players’ player, John Thomas; 2nd team players’ player, Mike Angove; most improved player, Nathan Szuchnik; best newcomer, Paul Molden; clubman of the year, Peter Mees; non player of the year, Ron Western;

tie (300 games), Anthony Williams; tie (150 games), Mike Angove; tankards, outgoing chairman Anthony Powell and outgoing coach John Dimond.

Barry's Masonic Hall was the venue for the dinner when guests were the club president, Vale Mayor Cllr Howard Hamilton, and wife Carol, and the club's two main sponsors - Mr C Mort, of C J Travel, and wife Marie, and Mr Alan Payne, of the Cadoxton Fish Bar.

The players, and their guests, enjoyed a fine meal, which was followed by an impromptu karaoke and dancing.

Pre-season training has already commenced and, for the next couple of weeks, will be on Tuesdays, with a 6.30pm start. Club captain John Blake and coach Gareth Ivory welcome all current and new players.

The annual Southmead 10s is being held on Saturday, August 9, and, as defending champions, it's important for Sully that players train, and make themselves available for selection. Supporters are welcome; to book a seat on the bus contact Mike Angove.

The club celebrates its 50th anniversary next season, with information on events being published as appropriate.

Past players and members interested in attending/sponsoring events are asked to contact one of the club committee. One of the main events will be a “Black Tie Do” on Saturday, November 15, with bookings already being taken; so, if anyone wishes to attend, they should get in touch as quickly as possible.
