RECORD numbers ran the Penarth and Dinas Runners hosted Cosmeston Relays race last week.

There were some impressive times in the race that was run in humid and drizzly conditions last Wednesday, July 16.

The race, which was in its 24th year, was started by Penarth Town Mayor Cllr Martin Turner just after 7pm.

Both running and non-running clubs entered teams of three into the race, with the running club senior men's and men's masters teams featuring four runners.

Members of the Penarth club cheered on runners throughout the race at various marshalling points.

The route, which was nearly 5k, started near the playground, went around the field by the golf course, down Mile Lane and over the bridge, through Cogan Wood, down Mile Lane again, and back to the starting area.

Each runner ran one leg each, with the times added together to give a final total.

More than 150 teams finished the race in a record for the club.

After the race the teams gathered in Penarth Rugby Club for the prize giving ceremony, with the winning teams presented with bottles of wine.

The winning senior men's team called Team Thie, featuring Gareth Lewis, Adam Davies, James Thie and Sam Longville, finished in 1.02.35.

Neath Harriers (A), featuring S John, D Johnston, A Reynolds and M Harvey, finished 2nd in 1.03.11.

Aberdare VAAC (A) finished 3rd in 1.04.39.

Penarth and Dinas Runners were 13th in 1.13.06.

In the men's masters (35-44)Les Croupiers (A), featuring Matt Hurford, Martin Williams, Nick Dukes and Rob Sage, were 1st in 1.05.29.

Neath Harriers (B), featuring G Davey, L Sandham, A Powell and A Baker, were 2nd in 1.11.00.

Pontypridd Roadents AC (A) were 3rd in 1.11.48.

In the men’s masters 45+ Pontypridd Roadents AC (A) were 1st in 52.19.

Aberdare VAAC were 2nd in 54.46.

Les Croupiers (C) were 3rd in 54.52.

Penarth and Dinas Runners were 6th in 1.00.31.

In the senior ladies Les Croupiers (A) were 1st in 57.46.

Pontypridd Roadents AC (A) were 2nd in 58.02.

Lliswerry Runners – LLN were 3rd in 58.34.

Penarth and Dinas Runners (A) were 4th in 1.01.41.

Penarth and Dinas Runners (B) were 12th in 1.07.54.

In female masters 35-44 Cardiff Triathletes were 1st in 1.03.52.

Les Croupiers (B) were 2nd in 1.04.28.

Les Croupiers (A) were 3rd in 1.04.30.

In female masters 45+ Pontypridd Roadents AC (A) were 1st in 1.02.38.

Brackla Harriers (1) were 2nd in 1.02.58.

Les Croupiers (A) were 3rd in 1.04.03.

In non-running club men Retro B and VHC were 1st in 51.34.

Rubble Valley Saints were 2nd in 53.24.

Nike RC Cobra Commander were 3rd in 55.25.

In non-running club ladies Nike RC Jets were 1st in 1.12.21.

Sisters were 2nd in 1.12.28.

Run Newport 1 were 3rd in 1.15.52.

In non-running club mixed Fonty Flyers were 1st in 1.00.30.

The Vale Runners were 2nd in 1.03.16.

AWTTC were 3rd in 1.07.41.
