PENARTH’S Brett Morse has made it through to the men’s discus final in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Brett’s second throw of 59.85m was enough to see him through his heat earlier this morning, July 30.

His throw was the fifth best in his heat and he will now be the first on the bill at Hampden Park at 6pm tomorrow night, July 31.

Shortly after making it through to the final he said: “The hard part done and into the final tomorrow.

“Cannot wait to get the crowd going and smash it. Thanks everyone for the support.”

Despite Brett’s throw being below his seasons best of 63.34m and personal best of 66.84, he will be hoping to make a mark on the big stage and bring a medal back home to Wales.

Brett recently said that he wanted to back-up his performances in training with a huge throw at Hampden Park.

“I’m performing well in training so there’s no reason I can’t go up there and win it,” he said.

“I’m still not quite at my peak but I’m not far off it.

“I need to go to the Commonwealth Games, do well and win a medal, hopefully gold.”

Penarth’s swimming sensation Ieuan Lloyd also made it through to the final of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley Final earlier this week.

Rubbing shoulders with the likes of South Africa’s Chad Le Clos, Ieuan came 7th in the final on Tuesday night in a time of 2.00.44.

He had won his heat with a time of 2.00.73 and looked set to star in the final.

Ieuan was also part of the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay Final, where he was part of the Welsh team that came 6th with a Welsh record time of 3.19.82.

The team had previously set a new Welsh record of 3.22.95 when they finished 4th in their heat.

Ieuan also narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the Men’s 200m Freestyle Final after he came 2nd in a three-way swim-off in a time of 1.48.96, with England’s Nick Grainger qualifying with 1.48.29.

Ieuan also came 7th in his Men’s 300m Freestyle heat with a time of 3.53.55.

Both Ieuan and Brett also competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
