MORE than 60 youngsters took part in the eagerly-anticipated Penarth Windsor Tennis Club's annual junior championships. Held in a week of glorious weather, the juniors were treated to off-court activities such as a FIFA tournament, table tennis and five-a-side football supervised by the club coaches, committee and tennis leaders.

As well as the competition returning to the first week of the school holidays, there was also a return of the famous club water fight - 13 years after then club coach Liz James took a soaking from junior member Robert Wedlake. With his return as coach, the roles were reversed and vengeance was served.

The club would like to congratulate all entrants for their performances and thank the parents and older juniors who helped to make the event such a success.

Friday's closing presentations featured three special awards - July player of the month (Carter Staples for his improvement, performances and transition into competitive tennis) and most improved player awards (Jack Pritchard for his continued development and contribution to club life) and (Holly Ritchie for reaching Red 1 rating and performance at the Tennis Wales Talent ID Day).
