THE good, the bad and the ugly all feature in this week's report. The bad and the ugly combined can be the only way the Penarth will remember their two recent PG1 games with BP Sully. Following on from a heavy home defeat earlier in July, this was repeated when they visited the Sully green and found things not to their liking at all.

A late skip withdrawal meant some readjustment for the team, although Clive Fry was declared fit by the local vet and regained his place. Unfortunately despite coming up on the rails late in the game and scoring 8 shots on the last 3 ends, his rink just failed to win, losing by 17 - 18.

Dave Clements also struggled and his rink similarly lost by an 8 shot margin (11 - 19). Colin Grant and his boys also slipped up and lost 15 - 18. Only Dave Dalby rescued any sense of pride on the day by securing the only two points, winning by 23 - 20. The overall score was a hugely disappointing losing margin of 9 shots (66 - 75), which effectively puts paid to any hopes that Penarth had of overhauling the PG1 leaders.

The good for the weekend came from another victory by the PG2 side over a weakened opposition team. Skip scores were Bob Willmott (24 - 11.25), Bob Hill (30 - 10), Roger Gidman (18 - 14) and Ron Maggs (17 - 13.5). A full house of 14 points was secured by this impressive win by Capt Lawrence and his battling crew.

Midweek saw the Munro Cup side travel to take on the newly inaugurated Cowbridge playing surface. All players managed to settle well on the surface and only Colin Grant failed to mark up a win, with his rink drawing 12 - 12 after a real close battle over the 18 ends. It was nip and tuck all the way. An overall result of 78 shots to 46 saw a bag of 13 points enabling the Rectory boys to keep up the pressure on rivals Windsor.

Dave Dalby’s rink ran out comfortable winners by 23 shots to 8, whilst Bob Hill also felt happy with a 22 - 6 win. Dave Clements rink added the final nail in the coffin by sneaking up on the 17th end and taking a magical 7 shots which enabled them to win by the odd shot (21 - 20). No doubt DC will relate this story for weeks to come.
