A DINAS Powys footballer received his first Welsh cap in front of nearly 30,000 fans last week.

Ryan Garland was presented with his cap for the Learning Disability (LD) national team at the Cardiff City Stadium ahead of Wales’s European Championships 2016 qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina last Friday, October 10.

Ryan's first appearance for the Wales LD squad was back in November 2013, when he played against Northern Ireland in Belfast.

He has since made five further appearance for his country, playing against Northern Ireland on two further occasions, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and England, scoring six goals in his six appearances.

In April 2014, Ryan captained his country in Ireland, winning the tournament that featured Scotland, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Ryan recently played against England drawing 3-3 and was named man of the match.

In recent years Ryan has broken into the Dinas Powys FC first team which plays in the Welsh League. He is a valued member of the team having played for Dinas since he was seven years old.

A spokesman from the club said: “Everyone at Dinas is very proud of young Ryan who is a great ambassador for the Vale club.”
