PENARTH Town's first team were in action last Saturday playing Cowbridge at home in the Vale Premiership. Town had had a couple of disappointing results earlier this season and so were hoping for an improved performance.

It did not start well for the home side who just could not settle into any kind of rhythm and it was not long before some poor marking allowed Cowbridge in to open their account.

This seemed to unsettle Penarth even more and another defensive error allowed the visitors to double their lead with only about half an hour played.

Wes Howells who had looked sharp then took a knock and had to come off introducing Penarth new boy Neil Rendall, who took up a place on the left wing. This seemed to give the Town a boost and they started to apply some pressure. This resulted in a corner being awarded.

Ashley Newcombe whipped it in to the far post where Tristan Davies headed in to get Town back into the game. The Town revival continued with Newcombe and Jonney Williams starting to take control of the midfield with support on the right flank from Ryan MacCann.

Soon after Rendell found himself clear in the box only to be brought down by a Cowbridge defender. A penalty was awarded to Penarth, which Paul Beedell clinically dispatched to get the home side back on even terms.

Cowbridge then put in a better spell themselves requiring Idris Angove to make a number of good saves in the Town goal. Finally, however, one shot was so well placed that he was beaten and Cowbridge went into the break with a goal advantage.

In the second half Penarth really started to take control, with Davies and Chris Hegarty organising the defence with Jack Stansfield and Luke Horwood providing strong support. McCann and Rendall worked the flanks and sent in balls for Anthony Angove and Beedell but they just couldn't find the net.

Finally a ball in from the dead ball line from Rendall found Newcombe unmarked on the penalty spot and he smashed it home with his left foot to draw Town level 3-3.

Cowbridge came back hard in the last 10 minutes but Penarth held on for a well earned point.

Their next home game will be against masons Moving group on November 1 at Cwtr-y-vil.

Seconds team results:

Cowbridge Town B 1 V Penarth Town B 3

Fantastic away win for the Towns reserve side yesterday. Slow getting into the game and going 1-0 down but after 20 minutes Cowbridge didn't know what hit them. After Cowbridge committed a nasty tackle from behind, Penarth upped their gears and played most of the game attacking the opposite half.

Good performances from all players. Welcome and well done to the debut players Alex Le Blancq, Ashley Scott and Scott Willetts, all impressed.

Two goals came from man of the match Nathan Omalia who threatened their defence all day and was unlucky not to get a hat-trick. Great show and debut goal from Ashley Scott.

That's four wins out of five matches for new managers Rob Jones and Simon Humphries. Next up is Cardiff Airport at home. Come and support them in Cwrt-Y-Vil playing fields. Old Pens Rugby Club.
