DINAS Powys Wolves faced IMFC in the quarter final league cup with the Wolves winning 3-1.

After Friday nights rain the pitch was surprisingly good but the softness underneath soon cut it up. Dinas started the slower of the teams allowing the home side to take an early lead with a mix up in defence.

Minutes later IMFC were awarded a somewhat dubious penalty when what looked to be a perfectly well timed tackle by skipper Fifield was adjudged to be a foul. Thankfully the imposing figure of Morris made the goals seem small, as the home team player failed to hit the target from 12 yards.

The villagers then started to play their game and Hewitson and Williams combined well to free up Booker down the right wing. His cross caused confusion amongst the home side defence as they panicked to clear the ball and sliced it straight into their own net.

Halftime with the score 1-1 Dinas regrouped and changed their shape. Dinas then had more quality attacks but the final ball was lacking. Eventually Quest put Hewitson through who coolly chipped the keeper from 15 Yards.

The game never really got started as a lot of wasted passes and stop starting did not allow the match to flow but the visitors looked the more likely to add to the scoreline.

In defence Moss, Williams, Lewis, Frost and Mallum looked too strong for the attacks thrown at them. While the midfielders Doughty, Harewood, Booker, Quest, Fifield and Obrien tried to get their passing games going but struggled at times with the pitch cutting up. Hewitson, Saunders and Pereira in attack are a pain to any side with a good mixture of strength, pace and skill.

Doughty sealed the match with a very well taken goal to put the Villagers into the semi final.

Morris and Stowell in goals each pulled off two great saves but looked very comfortable.

Man of the Match was Jacob Moss with some very well timed tackles.

The home side put a really good fight in this fixture and certainly made it difficult for Dinas to play their passing game.
