SOUTH Wales Senior League Division One

Sporting Marvels 2 - Sully Sports 3

Sully Sports travelled for this league game to Tonypandy for this game against a team riding high up in the league.

Both teams started well trading shots on each other with the home team looking very confident with the Marvels tricky winger a constant danger. Sports matched them but were taking a while to get used to the bumpy pitch.

At 20 minutes the Marvels took a deserved lead with a well taken goal, yet Sully hit back with some good chances and deservedly scored a belter with a free kick from Taylor Harding from 25 yards which saw the keeper rooted to his line. Taylor has returned to the club from Welsh Premier side Carmarthen Town.

The play was now even till half time, the front two of Dan Lawlor and Chris Rees worked tirelessly closing done the home defence with some great running.

The second half saw Sports confidently taking the game to the Marvels and went into the lead when Taylor Harding cut through the home defence and let fly with a grand shot high into the net. The Marvels were stunned by this and went further behind when Dan Lawlor met an Aiden Lewis corner to head in at the far post.

Back came Marvels and they had some good chances but with Townsend and Hopkins being outstanding, Sully kept them at bay with some crunching tackles.

The last 10 minutes saw Marvels score an excellent goal but Kieron Sharratt in the Sports goal saved some good efforts and enabled Sports to hold on for a deserved win considering the injury list and with two of their leading goal scorers out injured.

MOM had to be Taylor Harding and there were some excellent displays from Rees, Lawlor and Sharratt.

Team: Sharratt, Lamb, Jones, Storer, Hopkins, Lewis, Brown, Townsend, Harding, Lawlor and Rees. Subs used R Brown and M Blackie.

This Saturday Sports play a rare home league game when Cwmbach Royal Stars (Aberdare) are the visitors to Swanbridge, kick off at 2 pm.

South Wales Youth League

Lisvane Youth 1 V 3 Sully Youth

A brace from Kieron Miller and a belter from Rhys Knight enabled Sully Youth to collect another three points in the Youth League on a boggy pitch that made football hard to play. This weekend will see the Youth at home to a strong Fairwater side in the next round of the Youth Cup, kick off 1.45 at Sully.

Elsewhere the Vale Division One side lost in a difficult game against FC Pumas and will be looking to put that right away at Caddy Barry this weekend. In the SWWGL the ladies lost at Cardiff City Development and are looking to bounce back at home to Hafod in the cup this weekend, which is a 2pm kick off at Sully.
