DINAS Powys played Cwmbran Celtic with the match ending in a draw of 1-1. The match ball was sponsored by The Murch Post Office.

After a slow start by both sides Cwmbran began to take control of midfield and had three shots which were all off target in the first 10 minutes

After 15 minutes Cwmbran’s number 11 Owen Llewelyn shot at goal was superbly blocked by Dinas centre half James Marr, this was the first clear chance of the game.

Dinas Powys started to dominate possession and after 25 minutes Ben Ah-Mun, picked up the ball on the left side of the penalty area, cut inside and shot towards goal which was well saved by Cwmbran keeper Lewis Watkins. Dinas were unable to capitalise on the rebound and the ball was cleared.

Leading up to half time the game was end to end, with both defences playing well then in time added on a lapse of concentration by Dinas full back Luke Swarfield, Cwmbran centre forward Luke Lewis found himself unmarked in the box and struck the ball against the underside of the crossbar and in beyond Dinas keeper Jack Perks.

Five minutes after the break Dinas centre forward, Ah- Mun intercepted a pass between the two Cwmbran centre halves and attempted to lift the ball over the advancing keeper, the ball spun off the keepers arm towards the goal but bounced against the post away from the forward and was cleared by Ben Luck.

Both teams made substitutions and with Dinas pressing for the equaliser gaps started to appear for the Cwmbran forwards and after 70 minutes Luke Lewis slipped the off-side trap and advanced on goal. Dinas captain James Bloxham managed to get back and made a challenge on the edge of the area, winning the ball to save a certain goal scoring opportunity.

Dinas continued to press and Cwmbran’s keeper had to be at his best to save Nicky Bruce's swerving half volley.

In the 89th minute Cwmbran gave away a free kick and Dinas sent everyone forward. Nicky Bruce's precise free kick found Atif Bashir who powerfully headed the ball into the roof of the net for a well-deserved equaliser.

There was just enough time left for Dinas to have one more chance and substitute Sam Johnson stuck a ferocious 20 yard shot which was parried by Watkins and eventually cleared

The final whistle saw the end of an equally contested game and although the draw was a good point for the home side, Dinas probably felt they deserved all three.
