PENARTH and Dinas Runners donned their trail shoes and spikes to take part in the latest Gwent League cross country fixture on the weekend.

The second race in the series took place at Llandaff Fields on Remembrance Sunday, with a two minute silence held before each race as a mark of respect to all those that have fought for their country.

The ladies tackled three small laps of the fields, while the men ran four larger laps to run just short of 10k.

Catherine Tailby was the first Penarth runner to cross the finish line in the ladies race, clocking a time of 28.35 in 69th place.

Andrea Hurman, fresh from her Amsterdam Marathon exploits, was next up in 89th in 29.27.

Ruth Owens followed her up in 129th in 31.06.

Anna Helsing was 143rd in 31.48.

Yvonne Williams, who recently completed her sixth marathon this year, was 155th in 32.09.

Danielle Rayner was 161st in 32.31.

Michelle Hoey was 190th in 34.20, while Jeanette Ward, in her debut for the club, was 191st in 34.21.

Mandy Barrington, who battled injury throughout the race, finished 222nd in 37.48.

Clare O’Reilly, in an impressive sprint finish, was 225th in 38.43.

Judy Maragna finished with a smile on her face in 232nd in 40.08.

In the men’s race Richard Jackson-Hookins was the first Penarth runner to cross the finish line in 148th in 40.25.

Chris Nellins was next up in 239th in 43.51.

Andy Jones, making a return to racing, was 245th in 44.02.

just behind him was Clem Clement in 248th in 44.05.

Knill Baird-Murray was 257th in 44.19.

Chris Seal, Andrew Frayling and Malcolm Bradley were all involved in a fierce battle for places throughout the race.

Chris finished in 290th in 46.25, while Andrew, who was returning from injury, was 303rd in 46.55, and Malcolm, who recently ran the Snowdonia Marathon, was 306th in 47.00.

Andrew Palmer was next in 343rd in 49.22, followed by Steve Hill in 368th in 52.09.

All runners gained valuable points for the club.

Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday evening at Penarth Leisure Centre at 7pm.

The next Gwent League cross country fixture is in Brecon on December 6.
