DINAS Powys Ladies 4 V 1 Goytre Ladies

Dinas Ladies entertained Goytre from Port Talbot at Bryn y Don Sunday in an enthralling cup match.

The home side started brightly with the ladies getting the ball down and playing their passing game. Goytre were a threat early on with their speedy wide players but the villagers were very alert to the dangers.

Thirty minutes in the home side opened the scoring when Laura Lewis finished off a great move, Rachel Harold the Dinas keeper rolled the ball out to Emma Thompson who carried the ball 30 yards to release wing back Brooke Howells who put Lewis clear for a well deserved lead. Dinas then moved up the gears and moments later Leanne Pattemore stroked the ball home from 15 yards.

The home side looked very worthy of their lead as they moved the ball around the pitch and showed the importance of training, with all the little triggers working.

As halftime approached though Dinas were caught guilty of over playing the ball in dangerous areas and the Goytre midfielder pulled a goal back with a pile driver giving Harold little chance.

The instructions at the break were very simple keep playing the right way, get on the ball, use minimal touches and earn the right to play. The second half saw the villagers blow the visitors away in the opening 15 minutes as two well worked goals from Emily Gillard and Lewis put the game to bed.

The defence of Thompson, Ellison, and Beddoe had a solid match and always looked to start attacks off time and time again. Gillard seems to have found her position allowing Saunders and Pattemore a platform to play off. The midfield three looked very composed on the ball keeping possession very well for long periods and all looking to get on the score sheet.

Pushing Tracey White further up the pitch was vital today as her strength and presence was a major part in getting the ball to stick through the attacks. The lively Lewis was a royal pain working the visiting defenders at all times. Swedish signing Ellen Samelius had a very impressive debut playing left wing back as her and right wing back Brooke Howells destroyed the full backs at all times.

Subs: Jodi Bowles, Rhianne Booth and Danielle Speight were introduced in the second half and all continued the fine football.

Well done ladies and a big thank to Radisson Blu for sponsoring the Ladies this season.
