WINNING ways continued in last week’s matches at Rectory Road Indoor with Penarth Bowling Club overcoming the challenges of The Welsh Short Greens and Pentyrch.

There were three successful rinks in the mixed match against the “Short Greens” on Sunday, November 16 with pride of place going to the Reg Jones’ four. Reg, June Pallister, Alan Stockham and Diana Willcocks prevailed by a convincing 22 shots. There were also good wins for the two last minute substitute skips, Haydn Trow and Peter Small to round off a 75-42 victory.

Penarth are always glad to welcome popular visitors, Pentyrch and Wednesday’s match proved to be a tight tussle on three of the rinks where the Pentyrch ranks were strengthened by the inclusion of three “super-subs” from the Penarth club.

Despite the best efforts of these fifth columnists however, Penarth did eventually manage to prevail on all rinks. Nevertheless the club are very grateful to Ron Maggs, Phil Davidge and Reg Jones for coming to the aid of the visitors even if their bowling warranted some uncomplimentary oaths from the home side at times.

In the final analysis the match was well and truly “put to bed” by the huge winning margin of Bob Lewis’ rink, where Bob, Haydn Trow, Bowen The Books and Mike England were always in command. The other three winning skips were Clive Fry, Bob Hill and “Whispering Dave” Clements.
