PENARTH Bowling Club returned to winning ways in last week’s matches with wins over Murch BC and Pencoed, though the visitors gave a good account of themselves in both games.

Murch Bowling Club are always popular opponents at the Indoor Stadium and they provided stern opposition in Wednesday’s Mens match.

A solid performance by an experienced home side proved decisive in the end however, and there were wins for Dave Clements and Clive Fry with the top rink of Russell Daniel, Alan Stockham, Haydn Trow and Bob Lewis claiming top spot for Penarth.

The highlight of the evening from the Murch point-of-view was the splendid victory by the rink comprising J Flye, Derek Davies, Doug Bateman and Terry Phillips who inflicted a rare reversal on Bob Hill.

One observer reckoned that the smiles on Doug and Derek’s faces were bright enough to light up the entire Sunnycroft estate.

On Sunday, Penarth played hosts to a very competent mixed team from Pencoed.

This match was a hard fought affair with the visitors giving as good as they got, but the effort was not enough to secure victory as Peggy Fitzgerald and Bob Lewis fought doggedly to secure narrow wins and Haydn Trow, well supported by Berwyn Lansley, Joan Lewis and Diana Willcocks, played well throughout to win in fine style.

Sadly, Bob Hill was destined to go down again, albeit narrowly, in the face of some excellent bowling from the visiting captain’s four, nevertheless, Penarth prevailed by 20 shots overall.

Next Sunday sees the last of this Indoor Season’s Mixed games, when the visitors will be Cowbridge, whilst on Wednesday night there is an “all-Penarth” affair when the Indoor Mens Captain’s Team, lines up against the Indoor Lady Captain’s side.

Expect no prisoners in this one.
