PENARTH runners vied for club championship points in the Pontypool 10km over the weekend.

The hilly course was a tough race to achieve a personal best, with runners having to duck below bridges during some of the flat sections.

Richard Jackson-Hookins has now stormed into the lead in the men's club championship, whilst Andrea Hurman has marched her way to the top of the women's club championship.

Richard Jackson-Hookins was the first Penarth runner to cross the finish line in 16th overall in a time of 38.50.

Lisa Cleary won the Lady 50 category as she came home in 107th overall in a time of 46.44.

Andrea Hurman was next up in 109th in 46.03, followed by Louise Hunt in 117th in 47.13.

Kathryn Peterson was next with a good run to finish in 238th in a time of 53.45, followed by Mandy Barrington with a very strong finish to finish in 251st position in 54.18, more than a minute faster than her last race on the same course.

The next club championship fixture will be the Llanelli Half Marathon on Sunday, March 8.

On Sunday, February 22, Janice and Clem Clement also took part in the Portsmouth Coastal Half Marathon.

During the race they tackled a muddy beach, boggy playing field, howling wind and a long long run along the seafront.

Clem Clement was 6th in his age category in 1.38.36, while Janice Clement was 8th in her age category in 2.09.59.

Malcolm Bradley and Helen Griffiths also took part in the Neath 10 miler.
