SULLY Sports lost 27-28 against Ferndale, in a tight match in the sunshine.

Sully Sports entertained Ferndale in this tight game, only settled with the final play of the game.

From the kick off this game was set to be entertaining after these sides last played each other in another close encounter.

Sports showed good interlinking with the backs and forwards, completely different to last week’s game.

Jody Velda and Mike Angove led from the front with some storming runs, leading to a try.

Both sides had to dig deep in defence with no quarter given, strong tackles from Adam Wheeler and Scott Mills ensured Ferndale had to work hard for their tries.

Jake Williams kept everyone on their toes and ensured Sports kept edging forward which finished off with Sports driving the scrum over from five metres and Harry Moyle getting on the score board.

Much was the case of the rest of the first half, with no team giving any ground. The players certainly knew they were in a hard game.

With the sun beating down the second half started much as the first, with both sides trying everything to gain a score.

All players stepped up to the mark and started doing what they do best, putting pressure on the opposition and showed with a well worked try for Lee Walters, after some great interlinking between all players.

However, not to be out done Ferndale soon mounted a few attacks of their own and got a few points on the board, but Sports soon replied with what was the last phase of play and Alex Szuchnik crashing over. On the conversion the referee said there was two minutes left, so Sports gathered the restart and cleared their lines.

However Ferndale showed why they have come so far this season by throwing everything at Sports.

With time up, Ferndale stole the ball and managed to score under the post and with the conversion made the final result 27-28.

Another losing bonus point, keeps Sports firmly in third, with the next league game being away to league leaders Llandridnod Wells on April 4. It’s hoped a coach will be arranged.

Sports continue to grow and training is going well, working on new ideas and playing structures, which take time to embed.

Anyone looking to join a new club should come along to training or contact the club, all standards welcome.
