SILVER Stars Gymnastics Club members were amongst the medal winners at the National Preliminary competition organised by Welsh Gymnastics.

The competition took place last month at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

Thirty eight girls and boys from Silver Stars took part in the different age groups - for many children it was their first experience of competition outside the club.

There were many notable achievements in the various levels.

Under-10s level 2 Seren Chalk finished fifth on Vault, Anwen Jackson finished sixth on Tumble and fifth overall.

The team of Seren, Anwen, Maddie Wing, Annie Scott-Lawson and Xanthe Dennis finished third.

In the Under-12s level 2, from a field of 16 teams and 67 competitors, there were individual results - Annabel Grosfils finished fourth on Tumble, Evelyn Smith finished fourth on Vault and fourth overall.

The team of Evelyn, Ione Lush, Georgia Vaughan, Jessica Dunlop and Molly Barlow finished in silver medal position.

There were some outstanding performances from the Under ‘14’ girls team Bethan Chalk, Emily Hall, Grace Wing and Eva Tomalin-Reeves as the team finished with gold medals. Individual performances from Emily finishing fourth on Vault, Eva finishing fifth on Tumble, joint first on Vault and second overall and Beth finishing third on Tumble, joint first on Vault and first overall.

The children have been benefitting from training in the larger hall at Fairfield Primary School although some smaller classes are still being held at Evenlode School.

The club has recently been successful in securing a Community Chest Grant which has enabled the purchase of new equipment and will help to fund the training of young leaders for gymnastics in the future.
