MURCH Bowling Club ladies section played against Romilly Park on Tuesday, June 30, in a Ladies Double Rink match.

Murch bowlers travelled to their Barry neighbours and proved too strong for them, securing a win on both rinks and a comfortable margin of 11 shots.

Overall score was Romilly Park 16, Murch 27.

On Wednesday, July 1, the ladies played an Evening League match against Mackintosh.

Murch ladies entertained the Cardiff club in this, their second meeting this season and once again proved to be comfortable winners by 10 shots.

Overall score was Murch 37, Mackintosh 27.

On Thursday, July 2, the ladies were due to play in an Afternoon League match against Llantwit Major.

This home game was cancelled due to inclement weather and could not be rearranged so points were shared.

Murch faced Roath Park on Tuesday, July 7, with them playing away to the Cardiff club for the return match this season.

The ladies proved to be too strong, on both rinks, for them winning by a very comfortable margin of 23 shots.

Overall score was Murch 42, Roath 19.

Murch travelled the Vale club, Cowbridge, on Thursday, July 9, to meet the return fixture. The ladies once again found the all-weather artificial surface difficult to read but put in a determined effort, ultimately losing by 25 shots.

Overall score was Cowbridge 67, Murch 42.

The annual Village Cup fixture between the two local clubs took place on Friday evening, July 3, at the Dinas Powys club.

A six rink, mixed game, played in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry created an evening that was enjoyed by all.

Murch bowlers, however, only managed a win on skip Roger Mauchline's rink, 19-16, a draw on Cynthia Tranter's rink, 16-16, and all other rinks lost by considerable margins.

Mark Hughes, Murch captain presented Paul Marks, Dinas Powys captain, with the trophy which they had retained, during the after proceedings which included the usual excellent buffet and camaraderie.

It was a very successful evening enjoyed by players and non players alike.
