AS THE summer racing season reaches its climax Penarth, runners took part in the Brecon 10.

In hot and humid conditions the runners tackled the ten-mile out and back course on Sunday, August 2.

For most of the Penarth runners it wasn’t a particularly pleasant run, with the heat and undulating hills from the course getting the better of them.

But Richard Jackson-Hookins still managed to take more than three minutes off his personal best to finish in 1.01.41.

As the first Penarth runner home he clinched the men’s club championship title as he secured a maximum best of eight score of 160 (20 points is awarded per win).

Louise Hunt also won the senior ladies division, whilst Andrea Hurman edged closer to winning the women’s club championship crown as she finished with her first 20 pointer of the season.

Rhodri Evans and Chris Herdman also made their racing comebacks after several months off.

The ran started on Penlan athletics track with runners completing one-and-a-half laps, before the route went for about two miles downhill.

After around five miles of undulations the course looped back the way runners came from, tackling the gradual hill back up to the start again, before finishing on the track.

Richard Jackson-Hookins was the first Penarth runner home in 13th overall in 1.01.41.

Nick Jones, in his first club championship race since the Llanelli Half Marathon, was next up in 1.14.07.

Chris Herdman, gearing up for his autumn marathon, was 1.14.42.

Andrea Hurman, who was also building up for the Berlin marathon, was the first Penarth woman to cross the finish line in 1.16.06.

Chris Seal was 1.18.46.

Louise Hunt was 1.20.21.

Lindsey Hunt was 1.28.23.

Yvonne Williams was 1.29.59.

Rhodri Evans was 1.37.13.

Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday evening at 7pm at Comeston Country Park, by the visitor centre.
