IT COULD not have gone better for Sully Cricket Club, after having beaten the Cardiff Cavaliers by 12 runs in a T20 friendly on Thursday the Spartans 1st and 2nd teams gained promotion on Saturday by beating both opponents by over a 100 runs.

The first team captained by David Morgan won the toss against Newbridge and elected to bat on a hard wicket despite all the rain earlier on in the week.

Reddy and Morgan opened the batting and together they put on 57 for the first wicket before Reddy was well caught for a quick fire 34.

Trinath joined Morgan and he quickly got into his stride and punished the bad balls before being bowled for a well timed 22 and a partnership of 52 taking the score to 109 for two after 23 overs.

Kanishk was next in and he hit a whirlwind 15 before being well caught just inside the boundary and Inan went the same way two overs later (what a difference a few inches makes as both looked in fine form).

Morgan was next to go for a fine 42 which had laid the foundation for a good total.

A mini collapse occurred and the Spartans were 186 for eight when Sathish 13 not out and Kote with an excellent 23 not out came to the crease and in a partnership of 44 took the final total to 230 for eight after the allotted 40 overs.

In response Newbridge went for it from the start with Kanishk taking the first two wickets, but despite that they were still up with the run rate until Dishant entered the arena and removed the next three batsmen finishing with figures of three for 27.

Morgan with two for nine (and a brilliant one handed catch from Kanishk) Sathish with two for 10 finished off the innings with Newbridge all out for 116 in a game played in great spirit, with the Spartans winning by 114 runs and the first team went up as champions.

The second team captained by Chris Howe did the double over Newport Fugis winning by 117 runs.

The Spartans won the toss and like the first team elected to bat first which again proved to be the right decision.

Chris Howe with a superb 151 together with Haaris 45 amassed a superb total of 269 for five from the 40 overs.

In response the Fugis despite pushing all the way were undone by the excellent bowling from Gaurav taking four wickets and Sohaib with three wickets and were all out for 152 leaving the Spartans winners by 117 runs which secured promotion
