THE ladies of BP Bowls Club in Sully have done very well again this year playing in the County Semi-Finals at the presidents green in Rumney Gardens on Thursday, September 3.

Linda Woodcock had a close fought game of singles in the semi-final to be beaten by two shots, Linda Woodcock and Yvonne Lloyd and Stef Parker lost in the semi-final of the triples but Linda and Yvonne progressed too and won the County Pairs Championship.

They also got through to the national championship semi-finals of the Welsh Women’s Bowling Association which were held at the Welsh presidents club in Haverfordwest on Saturday, September 5. Margaret Matthews, Stef Parker and Yvonne Lloyd in the triples and Margaret, Stef, Linda and Yvonne in the over 55s rink, success in the Welsh Bowls Championships would take us through to the British Isles Championships next year in Edinburgh.

They competed in Jersey in 2014 losing to Jersey and brought home the silver medal.

They lost the triples semi-final on a very tricky rink needing three on the last end to draw and force another end. After a tough semi-final in the over 55 rink they got through to the final to play a team from Llandrindod Wells who won this British Isles title last year.

It was a nail biting game with both teams fighting hard, they went in to the last end level on 18-all and held the shot on three occasions during this last end but it was not to be and they eventually lost by one. They would also like to thank the supporters who gave up their weekend to come with them and cheer them on from the bank, it was much appreciated.

Yvonne Lloyd has been selected again to play for Wales next year in Edinburgh.

Yvonne would like to thank Sully Sports and Social Club for very generously helping her with financial sponsorship, this was greatly appreciated as their subsidy from the association is minimal. Welsh Women’s Bowls does not currently have any sponsorship and any financial assistance is always gratefully received.
