PENARTH swimmer, Ieuan Lloyd, gave an excellent performance when he competed in his club's Autumn Meet.

Ieuan, Nation Radio's Sports Personality of the Year, was competing for the City of Cardiff Swimming Club when they hosted the meet at Cardiff International Pool, earlier this month.

As part of the Short Course Season, The Welsh Capital Open Meet was held over 25 metres for the first time.

Taking part in the Meet were 24 clubs travelling from as far as Doncaster, Staines, St Ives and Oxford.

The Top Visiting Club was won by City of Oxford with Olivia Butler from Severnside Triton winning the Top Girl award for the second consecutive year and Zak Baker from Newtown Swimming Club winning Top Boy.

Along with Ieuan were national swimmers Xavier Mohamed and Chloe Tutton.

Ieuan won gold in the 200m breaststroke, 100m and 400m freestyle whilst setting two new personal bests in the 400m IM and 200m butterfly.

Xavier secured three gold medals in the 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle again setting best times in the breaststroke and freestyle events.

Chloe won two events, the 50m and 100m freestyle, before having to withdraw from the event due to illness.

Head coach Graham Wardell commented “Once again it was great to see the rewards for hard work in training translating into excellent race performances. All of the swimmers, from those who were competing at this meet for the first time right up to our senior internationals, all showed great skill levels and an attacking attitude to their races. This puts us in a great position with a little over four weeks to go to the Welsh national short course championships.”

Thanks go to the club parents who volunteered and helped run the Meet and the officials who enabled the event to take place. The City of Cardiff Swimming Club would also like to thank Swans UK who sponsored the spectator wristbands, The Gogglebox Swimwear who ran the swim shop, Fine Design t-shirts and Mike Foley who took fantastic photographs during the event.

The Club's next home galas at the International Pool will be the Cardiff Invitational Meet in February 2016, for their younger swimmers from eight to 13 years. The Meet gives them opportunity to race in the 50m pool.

Their seventh Tiger Bay Open Meet, which has an expanded set of races for Para Swimmers, takes place in March 2016.
