Dinas Powys 0 v Caldicot Town 3

THE game started at a high tempo and very competitive with Dinas closing down well on Wednesday, April 13.

Caldicot had an early free kick but James Bloxham headed the ball well out of danger. However, the high flying visitors were soon on the score sheet when a cross from the right by Ashley Palmer was headed home at the far post by Tony Wallis in the tenth minute.

Palmer and Ben Smith were combining well for the visitors and looking dangerous and Dinas's fine 'keeper James Curtin had to sprint out of the area a couple of times to clear the danger.

From a Caldicot corner Sam Adamson cleared the ball off the Dinas line.

Dinas had their moments and a good through ball from Keiron James to striker Adam Johns looked promising but a defender cleared the danger before he could get a shot away.

James and Johns were battling hard for everything but, on the 33 minute mark, after a mix-up in the Dinas defence, Smith broke through to beat Curtin and double the visitors' tally.

James Marr was also putting in a good shift for Dinas as was Sam Adamson. A good ball down the line by young full back James Perret sent Johns on his way but the ball hit him on the back and went out for a throw-in and the chance was gone. This was the last action of the first half with the visitors just about deserving their lead.

Just eight minutes into the second half Caldicot made it 3-0 when Smith side-stepped Curtin with the ball to slot home.

Dinas then rang the changes, Nathan Donnelly replacing Scott Muir. The visitors were pressing again winning three consecutive corners with Dinas working their hardest to clear their lines. Curtin was then called into action, gathering a dangerous looking cross by Sam Watkins.

The hard-working Johns was then replaced by Myles Case for the final odd 20 minutes and Caldicot also brought on fresh legs, Mitchell Slape replacing Jack Harvey.

Dinas still couldn't muster any telling attacks and Bloxham and Caulfield were kept busy dealing with long balls into their box.

The home side made a further substitution Rhys Palmer making way for Reuben Bryl with 15 minutes left.

Curtin then made a fantastic save from Caldicot substitute Slape but most of the pressure was still coming from the visitors.

They couldn't add to the score though and, after James was chopped down on the half-way line resulting in a yellow card for Slape, Dinas rallied for the final five minutes but couldn't reduce the arrears.

Dinas squad: 1 James Curtin, 2 Sam Adamson, 3 James Perret, 4 James Bloxham, 5 Paul Caulfield, 6 Nicky Bruce, 7 Rhys Palmer, 8 James Marr, 9 Adam Johns, 10 Scott Muir, 11 Kieron James (C), 12 Myles Case, 14 Reuben Bryl, 15 Chris Bramhill. 16 Nathan Donnelly.
