Dinas Powys 2

Ammanford 0

DINAS finally got back to winning ways with this fine win against a side some nine places higher in the table, proving that with the right instructions you can compete and win at this level despite all the squad coming from around a five mile radius of The Murch.

The final score-line could have been a lot wider, with Nicky Bruce hitting the cross-bar twice and Dinas having two blatant penalties turned down by the referee.

Ammanford had the first half-chance when a free kick close to the left corner flag was driven over the cross-bar by Ashley Richards under pressure from Scott Muir.

Sam Adamson was battling well with Ammanford's powerful looking Craig Frater and Dinas keeper James Curtin had to be alert to take a high ball in from Euros Griffiths.

Dinas began to get their passing game going and exert some pressure and a good run down the left by Adam Johns ended when he appeared to be brought down in the box but the referee waved play on. This was followed by an excellent tackle and cross by Reuben Bryl, starting a Welsh League game for the first time, unfortunately Scott Muir just failed to connect with his head to the cross when well placed.

The Ammanford number six Ben Soal was then booked for a two-footed tackle of Nathan Donnelly, back in the heart of the Dinas defence after a holiday. Dinas were then awarded a 20 yard free kick taken by Bruce bringing s good save from Daffyd Jones.

The game was fairly even at this stage with Dinas playing the better football. Ammanford then had a free kick near the left corner flag which Curtin attempted to take but was fouled giving Dinas the free kick.

A sweeping move by Dinas involving Adamson, Bryl and Johns enabled the striker to get a shot away but Jones gathered his effort without too much trouble.

A ball from Bruce across the Ammanford box reached Bryl and the youngster put in another telling cross which Muir was just unable to get a foot to.

The half ended goalless with Dinas having the better chances.

Things went downhill for the visitors in the second half, having to use three different goalkeepers.

Dinas started the half well with a Bruce free kick forcing Jones to gather. Rhys Owen was then show a yellow card for tripping Johns from behind.

Johns then fed Bruce with a good ball and hit hit a tremendous shot which beat Jones but cannoned off the cross-bar and was cleared.

Unfortunately for the visitors Jones sustained a leg injury and couldn't continue, Ashley Richards donned the keepers jersey and Owen Jones came on to replace him.

Despite this Ammanford began to mount some pressure of their own, a deep free kick from Nathan Jones reached Doyle Salvage but his cross was dealt with by the Dinas defence where James Bloxham and Donnelly were having immense games.

At the other end a double shot from Johns still didn't get the home side on the score sheet, with stand-in keeper Richards parrying the first attempt and his second volley cleared the cross-bar.

Dinas then rang the changes, Myles Case replacing Scott Muir. The Dinas pressure eventually told and a superb strike by left midfielder Kieron James from 20 yards hit the back of the net to give the Villagers the lead some 20 minutes into the half. James is proving that he is one of the best players at this level in this position in the league.

Things got worse for Ammanford with 15 minutes remaining when Case was fouled by the stand-in keeper in the box and was shown a red card and Dinas were awarded a penalty.

Matthew Harding then took over between the sticks but he could do nothing to stop Johns netting from the spot to give Dinas a 2-0 lead.

James Perret was then introduced, replacing Paul Caulfield and a few minutes later Luke Swaffield took young Bryl's place.

Dinas couldn't add to their tally but the 2-0 win was well deserved.

The Bottom club in Division 2 Chepstow are the visitors to the Murch next Saturday, April 23 with a 2.30pm kick off and the management team have requested that as many supporters as possible could attend to give the Villagers some encouragement in what is obviously a massive game for both clubs.
