VALE based JSTKD Martial Arts and Fitness welcomed five new Black Belts following the recent Tae Kwon Do examinations held at the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain.

Dedicated students from JSTKD’s Dinas Powys Club, Jake Hayvice, Isaac Robinson, David Cole, Matthew O’Callaghan and Ethel O’Callaghan kept their focus and determination throughout the three hour examination.

They were put through a rigorous assessment as the six senior examiners graded not only their ability to perform the 30 intricate movements of the black belt pattern but also step sparring, free sparring, floor work and breaking techniques.

In addition, they had to undertake a theory test to demonstrate their technical knowledge and command of Korean terminology.

Success was also enjoyed by three of JSTKD's existing junior Black Belts, Rhys Doel, Menna Burmingham and Matthew Hardcastle who all attained their Star Gradings. Rhys achieved his second star whilst Menna and Matthew achieved their first star.

Black Belts who are under 16 years of age have to wait twice as long as adults between their Dan gradings, so the Star Gradings are a way for juniors to continue to maintain high standards and perfect new skills during this waiting period.

There are three star gradings to complete with each becoming more difficult than the last.

Please visit jstkd.co.uk for full details of classes throughout the Vale of Glamorgan for ages three years up to adults.

Beginners of all ages are very welcome.
