Dinas Powys 1 v Llanwern 0

WITH just five minutes of the game remaining, hard-working striker Adam Johns netted the crucial goal to give Dinas their fourth win in the last five games.

Johns made his presence felt right from the first whistle, his pace was too hot for the Llanwern rearguard, and he got a cross in but the danger was eventually cleared.

At the other end a dangerous looking cross by Alex North was dealt with by James Marr in the six yard box.

Dinas were having the lion's share of possession and a good ball from Nicky Bruce out wide to Rhys Palmer saw Palmer get a cross in but again there was no end product. Luke Swaffield was working well at right back sending a succession of balls down the line for Palmer.

However, with 20 minutes gone, Palmer sustained a foot injury and had to be replaced by Ryan Garland.

North was looking dangerous at times and Dinas 'keeper James Curtin had to be alert to take another good cross from him with the forwards closing in.

A Bruce free kick won Dinas a corner, the ball eventually coming to Johns who, under pressure from Michael Bishop, got a shot away but Llanwern 'keeper Stuart Patten made the save.

Most of the action was in the Llanwern half with Myles Case and Johns combining well without threatening the Llanwern goal. However, a cross from Ryan Garland reached Johns who tried a spectacular bicycle kick which didn't come off and he would probably had done better to head the ball.

Johns then got in behind the defence but his shot from an acute angle was just wide of the left post. The Villagers were well on top at this stage, Keiron James putting Case in on goal but his shot was just wide.

As the half drew to a close Dinas had nothing to show for all their possession.

Llanwern replaced both their full backs at the start of the second half and they had a half-chance from a free kick by Robbie James but Curtin took his effort comfortably. Dinas had an excellent shout for a penalty after Case was tripped in the box but the referee waved play on.

The heaven's then opened and for 20 minutes or so the game was a bit of a farce with puddles appearing all over the pitch. The conditions seemed to bring the visitors into the game for a while and Jamie Argyle latched onto a cross but his shot was just over the Dinas cross-bar.

Dinas began to get on top again although Curtin did have to make a save from Argyle and, after a bit of a goalmouth scramble, Curtin dropped on the ball to clear the danger.

Courtney Aviet was then introduced for Ryan Garland and with just five minutes remaining, James played Johns in, he rounded the 'keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net to send the Dinas contingent wild. They ran the clock down then, taking the ball into the corners for a well deserved win.

Dinas squad: 1 James Curtin, 2 Luke Swaffield, 3 James Perret, 4 James Bloxham (C), 5 James Marr, 6 Keiron James, 7 Rhys Palmer, 8 Nicky Bruce,9 Adam Johns (1), 10 Myles Case, 11 Luke Garland, 12 Paul Caulfield, 14 Chris Bramhill, 15 Courtney Aviet, 16 Ryan Garland.
