On Sunday Centurions entertained Welsh Asians in the first round of the Welsh Cup.

The visitors batted first on a glorious sunny afternoon and lost an early wicket when A Ilyas was caught off the bowling of Santosh for three, with 13 on the board.

Opener Ashraf was joined by K Ilyas who became the first of Nathan Cuddihy's victims, falling for 21, with the scoreboard showing 42. Cuddihy picked up the next two wickets as well and the Asians were 83 for four at drinks.

Ashraf finally fell to Santosh for a well made 50 and at 152 for nine Centurions could have felt pleased with the afternoon's work in the field. However Rehman (26) and Niaz (11) put on 40 for the last wicket to leave Sully with a target of 193. Nathan Cuddihy (4-44) and Santosh Singh (3-45) were Centurions' main wicket takers.

The Centurions' innings was going much the same way as the Asians' had, with the score being an identical 83-4 at the half-way stage. Skipper Ted Alsop (40) and Rajkumar (52) were the mainstay of the home innings.

Pavel hit a quickfire 20 and Ali Raza got 16 as they chased the target. But the last wicket fell at 171, leaving Welsh Asians winners by 21 runs. For the visitors, the wickets were shared between Usman (4-34) Niaz (2-26) and Rehman (2-40).

So, although the game was lost, it went a long way to help erase the memory of the previous day’s result.
