ON SUNDAY, May 8, Sully Pinks Under-13s played their last game of the season needing a win to take the runners-up spot in the championship division of the South Wales Girls League.

They played Villa Dino Christchurch at Sully Sports FC and dominated possession from the start. Within two minutes, Cerys Warlow scored from the left side thumping the ball in to the back of the net. Sully settled in to passing the ball neatly and looking for the gaps in defence. Phoebe Bagshaw in midfield, Ellie Gunney as striker, Zoe Smith as right wing and Cerys Warlow as left wing began to break the defensive line of Villa Dino and after 10 minutes of shutting Sully out Ellie Gunney began scoring freely. After 20 minutes she bagged a hat-trick and the team were now enjoying playing free flowing football.

By half-time it was 7-0, Ellie Gunney added two more and Zoe Smith had joined the score sheet.

During the second half the game was far more even and the Sully defence, made up of Lily Francis-Oaten, Ffion Ross, Libby Johns, Sofia Creedon, Becca George, Belle Jones, Eva Griffiths and Olivia Harris dug in deep as Villa Dino began to create chances.

Sully scored two more goals from Ellie Gunney and Cerys Warlow to make it 9-0.

Goalkeeper Elena Warlow was called upon to make an incredible tip over save as Villa began to shoot on target. Eventually, Villa grabbed a conciliation goal but Sully began to secure more possession and threatened to score more but for some good goal keeping by Villa Dino.

The final whistle went and Sully Pinks finished the season in style.

Sully went 18 games unbeaten losing out by one point to Vale Caerau who won the league.

Sully won their last 10 matches.

Beth missed out playing the last few games with an ankle injury but played a key role in the season at centre midfield.

Sully Girls are looking to add to the player pool, particularly with girls currently in Year 8.

The other Sully Under-13s, namely Sully Whites, played in the Premiership Division this year winning nine of their last 10 games to finish fifth in the league. The girls move up to under-14s next season where they play 11 aside and are keen to recruit new players to keep the team going.
