INTER Penarth's Under-7 age group added another notable achievement to an already successful season by seeing two football teams go undefeated in the latest summer tournament at Island Marine.

The squad, drawn almost exclusively from Ysgol Pen-y-Garth, has proven to be a powerhouse in the end-of-season events, with one team yet to lose a single game and the other only suffering a couple of close reverses in the three tournaments played so far.

Under the guidance of coaches Dave Muxworthy, Adam Govier and Rhodri Lewis, the boys have improved immeasurably since the start of the season in September and, having initially come together as under-6s shepherded by Andrew Weekes, are now proving themselves against opposition not only in the Vale of Glamorgan, but also the Cardiff and Newport regions following tournaments organised in recent weeks by Danescourt FC and Newport Corinthians.

The latest event saw both teams pitched against familiar opposition at Island Marine's annual football festival, but resulted in eight wins across the day, albeit some in nail-biting fashion.

Although the regular season, staged on Saturday mornings at Jenner Park and Colcot Leisure Centre, finished several weeks ago, there is still plenty of football ahead for the talented group, with further tournament appearances scheduled for Sully this weekend and Canton Rangers next month before the coaches can take a well-earned break.

"It's been another stellar season, with the club expanding in terms of numbers," coach Muxworthy commented.

"The under-7s were able to field three competitive teams and that has culminated in a number of successful end of season tournaments around South Wales. With these boys moving up to the under-8s next season, we expect their success to continue, while the addition of an under-6 squad means that we are always looking for new players. As a friendly Penarth-based team, we are always open to anyone wishing to join a successful set-up while enjoying their football locally."
